This page contains links to various informative pages that I found after I got my Sansa. They havn't been updated since, except to rectify a few innacuracies and changes, but they can hopefully be usefull to anyone trying to get more out of their device. Personally I think your best move is to install Rockbox on it, linked below. It's an open-source alternative to the Original Firmware (OF) that comes with the player. Even if it is called a "replacement", you can still boot into the original firmware by holding down the left key while the device is booting.
Watch out! I heard there is a v2 out there. These links are for v1, no guarentee they will work on v2. HOW TO IDENTIFY A v2. Rockbox for v2 is a Work In Progress as of this writing.

In the first post:- Recovery Mode (activate "hold", hold rec+power)
- Reset Database without formatting (delete hidden \System\Data\Pp5000.dat)
- Easy Album Art with MSC (place "Album Art.jpg", less than 25KB)
- Forced shutdown (press power for 15 seconds)
- American firmware on European player (for +10 dB)
- Scanning through large files (>>+"hold" button)
